Prima facie no explosive in suspicious object found at Pune station: Railway police

A preliminary check by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) of the Pune city police has found no explosives or gelatin sticks in the suspicious object found on the Pune railway station premises on Friday morning.

As per the press release issued by Sadanand Wayse Patil, superintendent of the government railway police (GRP) in Pune, information was received around 10.35 am about a suspicious bomb-like object near the general reservation counter at the railway station. Soon teams of the GRP, BDDS, Pune city police, fire brigade and ambulance service were pressed into action at the spot.

“Primary checks by the BDDS and sniffer dogs found there was no explosive and gelatin sticks in the suspicious object. Also, it was not connected to any power source. Still for further investigation and disposing of the suspicious object, it was taken to the B J Medical College ground,” the press release stated.

Senior officers of Pune police, GRP and the railway protection force also reached the spot. Pune police commissioner Amitabh Gupta was among the officials who visited the spot and reviewed the situation.

The statement also said that further action will be taken based on the final inquiry report given by the BDDS. The GRP has appealed to citizens not to panic or spread rumours about the incident. As a preventive step, a security check of the Pune railway station area was also carried out by the bomb squad and the dog squad.
